PostgreSQL
Relational database, SQL
About
A powerful, open-source relational database system. Supports complex queries, foreign keys, triggers, views, transactions, and ACID compliance. Data is organized into tables with rows and columns, connected through relationships and constraints.
Why
Firestore works until it doesn't. Needed real joins, transactions, proper constraints. SQL is a different way of thinking about data.
Notes
With Firebase you think in documents. With PostgreSQL you think in relations. The shift takes a bit but it's worth it — the query power is just incomparably better.
Still learning indexing and query planning. The combination with Prisma means the schema and the application code stay in sync — change one, the other breaks loudly. That's good.
