Node.js

JavaScript runtime, server-side development

About

A JavaScript runtime built on Chrome's V8 engine. Enables server-side JavaScript with an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model — single-threaded event loop handles thousands of concurrent connections efficiently.

Why

The runtime everything else runs on. Understanding the event loop makes every framework on top easier to reason about.

Notes

Once the event loop model clicks — single thread, non-blocking I/O — async/await stops being magic and starts making sense.

Most of the time it's invisible. NestJS, Next.js, all tooling runs on Node. But when something breaks unexpectedly, knowing what's underneath is the difference between guessing and understanding.
