gRPC

RPC framework, HTTP/2, Protocol Buffers

About

A high-performance RPC framework developed by Google. Uses HTTP/2 for transport and Protocol Buffers for serialization — defines service contracts in .proto files that generate type-safe clients and servers in multiple languages.

Why

REST works until you have several services that need to talk to each other with proper typed contracts. That's where gRPC makes sense.

Notes

Still early. Learning Protocol Buffers and the code generation workflow. The idea of a contract in a .proto file that generates clients in multiple languages is the kind of thing that matters when services grow.

REST is fine until it isn't. I want to know what's next before I need it.
