Why
First backend framework. Good for understanding HTTP routing and middleware without anything getting in the way.
Notes
Express hides nothing. You learn the request lifecycle, middleware chains, error handling the way they actually work. That knowledge transfers directly — NestJS is Express with structure added on top.
Still reach for it when NestJS would be too much ceremony. Sometimes a simple script just needs a simple server.
