Wails
Go + React/TypeScript desktop apps, system WebView, native bindings
About
A framework for building desktop applications with Go backends and web frontends (React, Vue, Svelte). Uses the OS's native WebView instead of bundling Chromium — generates TypeScript bindings from Go functions for seamless frontend-backend communication.
Why
Wanted React's flexibility with Go's performance and binary size — without bundled Chromium.
Notes
Go backend, React frontend, Wails generates native bindings so they talk directly — no REST, no IPC ceremony, no bundled Chromium.
system WebView means the app uses the OS browser engine. The result is small — under 10MB where Electron would be 150MB+. For background tools that people install once and forget, that matters.
