TypeScript
Strict mode, type-level programming
About
A typed superset of JavaScript developed by Microsoft. Adds static types, interfaces, and generics that are erased at compile time — the output is plain JavaScript that runs anywhere.
Why
Started when my projects stopped being just for me. type safety catches mistakes before users do — that's the whole point.
Notes
Probably my favourite language out of everything I've tried. Very beautiful, but sometimes terrifying.
strict mode from day one on new projects. Once I enabled it mid-project and got a few hundred errors at once. Never again.
The deeper you go, the more type-level programming programming feels like a second language inside the first. It's elegant when it works. It's a wall when you need to change something that's been over-typed. Types should protect the architecture — not define it.
